Polyaspartic Floor Coating Can Go Down In Cold Weather
This coating cures at lower temperatures than epoxy. That helps in a Lethbridge winter, when a garage may sit near freezing between chinooks. We still check the slab temperature before we start, and we add heat when the floor is too cold.
Lethbridge air is dry for most of the year, and dry air lets the coating set evenly without the cloudy film that damp air can leave behind.
Polyaspartic Floor Coating Versus Epoxy
Epoxy and polyaspartic each do their own job. Epoxy builds a thick base that fills small dips in the slab. A polyaspartic floor coating is harder on top, holds its colour in sunlight and cures much faster.
Most of our garages use both: a base layer, a broadcast of flake and a clear top of the faster material. If you need the floor back the next morning, the whole system can be polyaspartic. Our garage floor coating page shows how the layers go together.
Polyaspartic Floor Coating Cost In Lethbridge
Expect about $7 to $12 a square foot in Lethbridge. The material is pricier than epoxy and has to be spread quickly before it hardens, but you get the space back sooner.
Polyaspartic Floor Coating Handles Hot Tires
Lethbridge summers can reach the mid 30s. Tires coming off Highway 3 on a hot day get soft, and a soft epoxy top can stick to them and peel. A polyaspartic floor coating is harder and handles hot tires much better, which is the main reason our clear top layers use it.
Polyaspartic Floor Coating Needs A Practiced Hand
Because it sets so quickly, this coating gives the installer only a short working window. It is mixed in small batches and spread right away. A batch that sits too long can leave roller marks or a patchy finish, and rolling over it later does not fix that.
A polyaspartic floor coating still needs a diamond ground slab. The fast cure is a time saver, not a shortcut around preparation, and the slab check tells us how much grinding and patching your floor needs first.
Polyaspartic Floor Coating For Showrooms And Busy Shops
Car and RV dealers want a showroom floor that shines under bright lights and can be redone over a weekend. A clear, high gloss top layer over flake or a solid colour does both. We usually coat one half of the showroom at a time, so customers can still walk through.
Service shops that cannot lose a week of work pick the faster system for the same reason, since a bay can be back in use the next day. It also shrugs off brake fluid, coolant and tire shine.
